[ Hata no Kawakatsu is the legendary father of Sarugaku theatre. When the country was in turmoil, he wrote 66 plays, and had a mask made for each, in order to bring peace to the people. After passing down the secrets of his art, he went out to sea to die, but some tales suggest that he returned as a monster that terrorized the countryside until being enshrined as an avatar of Bishamonten.
