[Corrin had bested him over and over- how, when Takumi was on the side of justice in this. His siblings wavered, wondering if perhaps Corrin could be brought back. But not Takumi. No, no he knew Corrin, if he ever had been his brother, was nothing but a Norhian demon now. He had heard word from their ninja how the man had killed innocents, had seen himself how his army had slaughtered every man, woman and child in Cheve while Takumi himself was forced to flee like a coward.

No, no, dying there would have been pointless. He had to live, get stronger, and kill this monster himself. Him and every Nohrian that dared show their faces in Hoshido.

At the time, he couldn't recognize what was happening. But as a memory, especially to those that knew him, it was clear something was very very wrong. Under Takumi's thoughts in his memory was another voice- it sounded like Takumi, certainly. Enough that he could be forgiven, in his pain, for thinking it was just his own mind. But from the outside looking in things are more clear- it's cadence is off, even as it wears Takumi's inner voice as a mask. And each time it spoke a throbbing pain makes it's way from behind his eyes and into his brain. Eventually even when it was quiet he was in pain- he didn't sleep due to it. Barely ate. Only trained. And Killed.

'Kill Corrin, that is the only thing that will make the pain stop. And kill every Nohrian that breaths. Not just the soldiers. All of them. They are a plague on this country, and only death will end it.'

And it seemed to be working. Every arrow he put through a Nohrian eye or throat was like a balm on a fevered brow. It was only after killing dozens that he could catch a few broken hours of rest. And so the man that once had never killed anyone other then a Faceless soon gained a bodycount unheard of among the Hoshidan army. But still, still he could not beat Corrin. And the pain only grew.

He was such a failure in fact, that eventually Corrin and the Nohrian army broke through the border. Garon himself was coming. Sakura was missing. And on the great wall of Suzano waited Takumi and his forces. There would be no more fleeing- if they broke this last barrier, only Hinoka and Ryoma would be between them and the throne. If Takumi failed, Hoshido would fall- for even Ryoma couldn't stop an entire army. Not alone with a few soldiers and ninja.

But of course, he failed. Because Corrin. Corrincorrincorrin it was always Corrin. No matter how many he killed he could not best this one man. He was a disgrace- and they even dared to offer to take him prisoner, like they apparently had Sakura? His dear Sakura, who was never made for war. Who had been the only sibling he truely knew cared for him. Why take her instead of kill her in battle? Certainly they had plans for her- perhaps marry her off to one of the Nohrian princes in order to solidify their claim over Hoshido.

He prayed this wasn't the case, that she would die in their prison rather then be abused and forced to play a puppet. He would not let something similar, or perhaps torture, happen to him... he had failed, so he didn't deserve to live, even as a trophy. And the voice agreed: 'Worthless. Even if you could reach Ryoma he would not want someone that let the Wall fall fight alongside him. You are a disgrace- the only way to salvage your honor is to not be captured and enslaved.'
