basically an open rp post with a TWIST - this is basically a test run for Sonico at cosmographia so threads in this post take place with the assumption that they're happening in that jamjar setting! THIS IS BASICALLY A FREE-FOR-ALL come at me with assumed cr, brand new meetings, WHATEVER GETS THE CREATIVE JUICES FLOWING, Y'ALL

[You know what sucks? Monsters suck.

This one's almost a centipede, if centipedes were half the size of buildings and also if they had, like, fifteen goddamn lizard heads; they've caught it just outside the city, fortunately for its residents, but the open fields don't exactly provide a whole lot of cover.

Clover's combat tactics have always been a little more "hit it 'til it stops moving" than anything though so whatever.

Too bad there's a WHOLE LOT OF SHIT MOVING HERE]

Watch it! [That yell comes right before she plunges her axe in the neck of the head snapping at Sonico from behind—it isn't a hard enough whack to decapitate it, but it does get the beast to turn its attention to Clover instead.

She hits the ground, rolls out of the way, swings the axe in the air to keep another head away from her as she tries to find her footing.] Seriously?!

[ she's been in Waverly Bay long enough that she's had to fight monsters before, but it never stops being terrifying

no matter how much she tries to keep in mind that dying isn't really dying, that as long as her gem stays whole and uncracked there isn't an injury in the world that can stop her, her heart still rides in her throat the entire time and the fact of the matter is that she doesn't know what she's doing. which is why it's such a good thing that Clover apparently does. Or at least that she has a passing idea.

she just barely manages to keep a shriek off her tongue once the other girl intervenes and she staggers back, only just keeping hold of the naginata in her hands. just because she can summon it doesn't mean she has any idea how to use it, so when she makes her own attempt at a rescue, it's rather haphazard and really just amounts to swinging the bladed end in the direction of this whatever the hell this monster is ]

St--stay away from her! Don't you dare h--hurt her!

[The head swivels away from Clover—she comes to her feet in a leap, takes the half-moment of distraction to focus energy to her hands, through her fingertips; her weapon is as much a part of her as her gem—

the axe's blade, twice as long now, cleaves clean through the beat's nearest neck.]

Eat it, ugly!

[She scrambles back to regroup beside Sonico despite her boast, though, staggering a little under the weight of her weapon. It takes a lot of effort to shout over the bullshit centipede hydra's pained howling, but Clover has more than the vocal power necessary.] One down! I'll make a distraction, take out one of the stragglers!

[Instead of waiting for confirmation like a reasonable human being, she shrinks the axe back down and leaps straight at the monster, swinging and jumping and attracting all the attention she can manage, just barely fending off fangs; being small and quick and feisty makes her hard to catch.]

[ in the split second she has to think between hearing Clover call out to her and needing to move, Sonico finds herself deeply envious of the other girl's confidence. she doesn't know if it's bravado or if Clover really is that fearless, but either way, she'd like to at least pretend to be that brave.

As it stands, she can't give Clover a proper response -- all she can do is give a little squeak that's less an affirmation than it is just an involuntary little exclamation of how completely out of her depth she is.

and then Clover actually starts with her distraction and Sonico lets out a shriek. ]

C--Clover-chan, wait!

[ her grip tightens on the naginata, so hard that it hurts, and she charges forward on boneless legs, swinging the blade wildly through the air in the desperate hope that she might hit something before Clover gets hurt. ]

[onaroll]

You know what's great?

Besides fashion?

Macarons.

"Sonico, Sonico! Good news!"

Oh hey Sonico it's Amelie and what is that she's carrying?

A platter of giant macarons.

"I convinced that bakery to make these! Let's share them!"

it's almost ridiculous how bright her expression gets when she sees that plate because. ok waverly bay is nice and everything but she has really been missing her cute pastries and here is an entire plate of them in front of her

M--macarons! Are those really macarons?! I--is it really okay if we share them?

Picking up a macaron, she hands it over to Sonico.

...there's still three macarons on the plate, somehow??

[ you know what anyone else might notice and possibly raise a question about that but. nah. sonico is just too jazzed by the fact that she's going to be eating macarons for the first time in what is absolutely forever, she is just going to totally overlook it and happily take the offered macaron ]

and god she's not even speaking just. look at that ridiculously joyful expression on her face right there. ]

Yes good. That is what all of Amelie's friends who are cute girls should look like.

Amelie will just pick up another macaron, leaving three on the plate, and enjoy her delicious treat.

[ now she's done stuffing her face with delicious macaron goodness, Sonico can actually take notice of this -- she's about to ask Amelie just how much a batch like this had been when she realizes that... despite the fact that they've both had one, there's three left on the plate still.

... huh. did she miscount...? ]

... S--so, um... does the bakery do them in batches of five...?

Blink blink.

"No? I only ordered three of them..."

[ ... glancing down to the full plate of macarons

and then back up to amelie with an expression that very clearly says am i missing something ]

Th--then... um... the plate...?

Oh. Oh!

"That's my power! I can make perfect copies of anything I touch!"

O--oh... really?

[ that's much better than the alternative that Sonico had apparently just lost her ability to count. ]

That's so useful...! Does it really work on anything?

"I have to be able to lift it, and it can't be alive."

But that's...about it. Pretty useful, huh?

Y--yeah...! You could copy all kinds of things with it...

You'd probably never run out of clothes or food or anything...!

Amelie grins and tips her hat, in the process making a new one that she hands to Sonico.

"I don't, in fact! It's fantastique!"

You could set up some kind of service for doing this, you know...! I bet it'd be really useful for some of the people in town.

"Oui? I already spend a lot of time keeping the Temple pantry stocked..."

Right! But apart from food, think of all the things you could copy! Even if you're not going to sell them, I think it'd really help people. Like, um... copying spare clothes! All we have for now is the thrift shop but if people gave you some of their clothes to copy and leave for new arrivals, I think it could really help.

"I didn't think of that, probably because this suit is bespoke and...wouldn't fit other people, but surely not everyone who comes here wears things specifically tailored to them, right?"

Exactly! I mean... my jacket's probably a little too warm for this kind of weather...

But my t-shirt and my skirt would probably work fine...! Maybe when people arrive here, we could ask them if it's okay to copy their clothes? Like a donation, except you're not losing anything.

Amelie honestly considers just asking to make copies of Sonico's clothing right now but that...would be a little awkward...

"Well, we are in the southern hemisphere, so it should be winter soon? And your jacket is actually super cute, so I wouldn't mind a copy, personally?"

Will it really get that cold, though...? It's always so warm and sunny here...

[ and then she realizes that sounds so dismissive and hastily rushes to correct it ]

B--but yes, that'd be okay! I don't think it'd be much use for donating, though... how many people would want to wear it...?

Amelie actually considers this.

"I can think of a few people? Plus, I used to live in a region a lot like this, and it can get really cold in winter."

Oh, really? In that case, I guess it would be a big help!

Next time I do my laundry, I'll let you copy them. That way, they'll be nice and clean and fresh once someone takes them.
