hi i found this- wildcard/your choice
Whatever happened, happened, and it's obvious that the enthusiastic, bright girl he's only met twice before is in some sort of incorporeal pain-- of hurt, not borne of blood or blight, but some other matter unknown to him.
She cannot remain upon this shore. ]
You must rise, Maiden.

It'd kind of been too good to be true that she was here at all – Stella had just been getting used to being here on her own when Violet had arrived and turned everything upside down. And it'd been so good and so fun to have Violet here and she'd just started getting her hopes up that she'd be able to see others from home too but–
Well, Violet had gone back home and now Stella was back to being on her own. It's... harder to get used to the second time around.
So here she is on new arrival day, sat here long after all the others have already departed and long, long since the rain had started sheeting down. She looks so miserable that it's possible she hasn't even noticed it's so cold and wet out.
She just barely looks up as Somnus approaches, and only gives a little huff of assent before she goes back to gazing out over the waters. ]
... 'm waiting for somebody.
[ At least she's not far gone enough to avoid giving an explanation. ]
no subject
He feels the spray of the ocean upon his cheek. The tide nears. It probably wasn't so close, when she had first settled into her spot here. ]
For how long have you waited thus far? [ He asks, eyes turning from the water to her, hawkish in assessment of her well-being.
Undoubtedly, at least an hour. ]
no subject
Maybe both. ]
Not sure. ... a while, though. Maybe a couple of hours. My phone kind of died, so I couldn't really check...
[ It's definitely long enough for her to have give up the ghost by now. But she can't pull herself away because she's not sure she could ever forgive herself if she turned her back and her friends reappeared just like that. ]
no subject
What needless suffering, this...
She'll hear a rustle from beside her, the sound of a clasp being undone, and then something heavy and warm falls upon her shoulders and back. It seems his cloak, dark and heavy, has been draped about her. ]
Very well.
[ He says, pointedly, but offers nothing more but silence after that, standing and resuming his own watch of the waves. ]
no subject
But then she pulls it around her and huddles into it a bit because... well. It's cold. She's not about to turn it down. ]
... What about you? You're gonna get super cold out here too.
no subject
Then, we will leave in due time.
[ By way of physical health, lingering here when it brings harm is wholly unnecessary, and he means that 'we' for the both of them. Yet it is with this that he remains there in silence. Somnus is not one to coddle, and he is not one to give false hope or unnecessary reassurance; however, he recognizes this: that there is meaning in mourning, as well as the hope of looking to the horizon, so long as it is not self-destructive.
The sea smells wild like its waves, and the wind whistles along the cliffs. Minutes like this pass, the passage of which ebbing and flowing like the waves upon the shore, growing closer to them. Dusk often seems shorter in comparison to the rest of the day, light, there then gone the next. Whitecaps on the waves beyond refuse to catch the any light, boding of a storm. Beyond all of it is the edge of the ocean: a stable constant in comparison, and to where one might gaze for another to appear.
No one appears in this time, and reality knocks.
At last he speaks again. ]
What do you see?

She hunches over a little more, hugging her knees tight to her chest to try and soak up a little more warmth. Now she's been pulled a little closer back to the real world, she's starting to get more aware of just how gross and cold she feels. ]
A big fat load of nothing. [ If she's trying to inject a little levity into things, it's most definitely not working. ] Even the turtles look like they all just went home.
15. nightmares
The night was young when Naoto started having the nightmare. At first, it was minor. Flipping from side to side and trembling. Then, as it progressed, it slipped deeper and deeper-- unintelligible muttering, shudders, and uneven breathing all joined to make one hot mess of a teenager. After what felt like hours, Naoto woke up with a scream, eyes blowing open and lurching into a sitting position.
It takes even longer to realize that he was safe. He struggled to remember the details, only remembering that he decided to crash with Stella to avoid the streets... again. Sometimes a couch was better than a park bench. He supposed the nightmare was just because of lack of sleep. He groans, pushing his face into his hands. ]
God... I hope I didn't wake her up...
no subject
But getting woken up by yelling... it's definitely a new one.
There's a groan from the big pile of blankets that Stella had disappeared into as soon as she'd climbed into bed and a moment later, Stella herself emerges, head poking out like a turtle popping out of its shell. ]
Naoto...? [ She's too groggy to be really alarmed. ] S'you, right? You okay?
no subject
[ He doesn't want to worry Stella, so brushing it off was the best course of action. He wipes his face clean of sweat with his hand, trying to calm his erratic breathing. ]
Just a bad dream. I'll get over it.
[ He's clearly putting on a brave face. He knows he might as well be awake the rest of the night, so he tries to ease her for the time being. But that never stopped his erratic breathing. ]
Sorry for waking you up.
no subject
I mean, I figured it probably wasn't a good dream. You were yelling, like, a whole lot.
[ She says it matter of factly enough that any potential sting is taken out from her words – all things considered, she's taking this pretty on board.
Rather than burrow herself back into her blankets, Stella shifts herself to the end of the bed and gets up, comforter wrapped around her shoulders to ward off the late night chill, so she can make her way over to Naoto. ]
Need anything? You're kinda wheezing a little.
no subject
[ Naoto laughs weakly, trying to keep himself steady emotion wise. It was no wonder that he found himself with a dry throat. He swallowed thickly before continuing. ]
Ah, not really. Just water really, but I can get it myself. Thanks for the offer, though.
[ He didn't want to keep Stella up all night. She needed sleep. ]
no subject
[ Even as groggy as she looks, the way Stella's eyes narrow and her fists plant onto her hips is pretty hard to argue with. ]
If you're wigged out, you can tell me.
[ He's not getting his water til he fesses up!! ]
no subject
I'm not trying to play it cool. It's.... it's just hard to talk about.
[ He sighs. His voice was small as he continued. ]
But I'll tell you, as long as you keep it secret.
no subject
[ She blinks at him and her expression softens a bit, with concern rather than sleepiness – obviously if something woke you up in the middle of the night yelling your head off, it probably wasn't great, but as long as you keep it secret adds a little unexpected gravitas.
To her credit, though, she only hesitates for a moment before she plops herself down on the sofa next to him. ]
Yeah, of course. I'm not gonna tell anybody.
no subject
His voice was small as he replies, finding his hands a lot more interesting. ]
Well... The nightmare... it was about how I lost my family-- fire, blood, screams, and how... how it was all my fault. I could have stopped it, I could have... and yet...
[ He was shaking, trying to stifle his tears. ]
God, could I even have done anything to save anyone?
no subject
... Jeez. I had no idea you... man, I'm so sorry. I'm not gonna ask you what happened if you don't wanna talk about it but...
[ She has no idea if he wants to be touched when he's so tense and still shaking off the grip of that awful dream, so she errs on the side of caution and gently bumps her shoulder against his – a reassurance that she's here and she's present and she won't be going anywhere.
If Naoto wants to talk, Stella's here to listen. ]
no subject
[ He's really struggling not to cry over it. It shows in his shaking shoulders, downcast eyes, and the pain in his chest. Was it always this hard to breathe? He wasn't sure, but he takes a shaky breath-- only to blink at the shoulder bump.
His gaze shifts over to look at her, eyes threatening to spill over. That alone made a small, frail smile cross his lips, breathing a sigh through his nose. It helped a lot more than he let on. ]
You don't mind if I just... let it out, do you? [ He had to ask despite his shaky voice, even though he knew that her just being there was enough permission. ]
no subject
Man. Just what could have happened to Naoto that even dreaming about it gets him like this?
Her voice is uncharacteristically quiet when she replies, a soft murmur. ]
Yeah. You can let it out if you need to. Uh– here.
[ She feels like she should give him a handkerchief or something, but she's not organized enough to carry one of those even when she's actually dressed for the day. So she slips the comforter off her shoulders and offers it to Naoto – it's the closest thing to some privacy she feels she can give him right now. So he doesn't have to show her whatever face he makes when he finally lets some of this go, not if he doesn't want to. ]
no subject
It was to hide the tears and horrible tremor of his lower lip. He couldn't say it if he was even looking at Stella. She was such a ray of sunshine, how could he ever think about telling her this?
He had walked into it, so he might as well continue. ]
It... It was my sister. She killed our family. All that blood, the fire... the screams, the pain... God, she even tried to kill me too... I want to save her! I really do!! [ He pulls the comforter closer as the tears make it harder to enunciate. ] But I don't know how.. I don't know how...
