Hurt/Comfort - Hurt/comfort is a fan fiction genre that involves the physical pain or emotional distress of one character, who is cared for by another character. The injury, sickness or other kind of hurt allows an exploration of the characters and their relationship.

1. INJURY. You've been injured. Broken bones or bleeding out or maybe just a tiny little papercut. The choice is yours.
2. SICKNESS. You're sick and laid up in bed, at home or in a hospital. The severity is up to you.
3. FEAR/ANXIETY. Something is happening and you're scared beyond belief.
4. LOSS OF SENSES. Sight, touch, taste, hearing, smell, etc. You've lost some important sense or ability and now you're left to deal with it.
5. DESPAIR. Nothing is good or right anymore and you can't shake the depression. Maybe that friend of yours can help though...
6. BREAKUP. You've been dumped. You need someone to comfort you, possibly by the one who dumped you.
7. MAKE UP. Fight or break up, it's time to makeup.
8. RESCUED. You've just been held captive and/or tortured for however long and finally, someone has come to the rescue.
9. BAD ROMANCE. Fight, cheated on, abused, whatever the case is, someone else can clearly see you need comfort from someone who isn't your terrible lover tonight.
10. LOSS. You've experience a loss of some kind and need help getting through it.
11. INSANITY. You're seeing things that aren't really there, hearing voices, or you're just convinced you're at your wit's end finally and you're going to crack. Maybe someone can give you a helping hand.
12. TIRED. You've had a heard life recently and you're just worn too thin to really care anymore. There's no fight left in you anymore. Can someone help change your mind?
13. ADDICTION. Drugs, alcohol, sex, gambling, or any other type of addiction has got you in its grasp. First time or relapse. Will someone be able to save you?
14. INSOMNIA. You can't sleep anymore, no matter how hard you try. Maybe someone can give you company.
15. NIGHTMARES. Or, on the other end of the spectrum, you can't sleep without gruesome, horrible nightmares. Either someone is stuck in your dream with you, witnessing it or they're just waking you up, soothing you out of it.
16. BLACKMAIL. You've been caught doing something you shouldn't and you were blackmailed because of it
17. SEPARATION. You're going to be separated for awhile or were separated for a long time. Either make up for lost time or try to spend every last moment together.
18. VIOLATED. You've been violated in some way. Can include sexual overtones or not. Can someone help you through it?
19. STRANDED. You've been stranded somewhere remote, with no help of anyone finding you for awhile. Can you survive this together?
20. SINS. You're feeling the weight of your sins and guilt clearer than ever. Can someone give you absolution or lessen the ache any?
21. SECRET. It's difficult having to keep that secret of yours, be it a relationship or something you just don't want to share with anybody else. Maybe it's okay to talk about it now though...
22. ADDITION. Babies should be joyous things unless you're in a situation where you know you won't be able to care for them. Either you've adopted or found out you're pregnant.

[I want to include the actual moment of breaking his nose with Atsushi's fist like we all deserve. Just need a situation where soosh and therion can run into him.]

[The black market auction in Wellspring is as dark, dangerous, and thrilling as ever, once Therion gets them in. To be honest (ha!), he’s kind of showing off for Atsushi. After noting that every visitor this time around has worn a certain mask to gain entrance, he lifted one for each of them and let the guards wave them in. The caverns holding the market this year are full enough of rarities that even Therion’s impressed. Surrounded by treasures, buoyed by the excited whispers of the purchasers and sellers alike, Therion’s own spirits rise. He sticks close to Atsushi, finding excuses to tap his shoulder or bump his arm, pointing out stones worth more than his entire town, a tome thought lost for decades.

One item in particular catches his eye. When he deems the time right, the market’s attention elsewhere, Therion moves towards an anonymous-looking scroll case. He’s timed his approach to take advantage of another sale, one the scroll’s owner has been quietly salivating over for an hour; no one will notice the item’s absence until he’s out and away with it, away with Atsushi. How long will it take him to notice if Therion slips it into his pack on their way home?

He’s smiling faintly as he reaches for the case. The smile freezes as a hard, familiar hand grasps his wrist.]

’Well, well, well. I’ll be damned. Is it really you, mate, back from the dead?’

[Tempting as it is to watch him work, Atsushi tries not to pay too close attention to what Therion's doing. The last thing he needs is to alert anyone else that Therion's doing something of note. Besides, the wares themselves are more than enough to occupy his notice.

That is, until someone grabs Therion.

Atsushi doesn't know who this is, but given Therion's history with - other people, in general - he doesn't hesitate to pry the stranger's hand off of Therion with exactly as much force as necessary.]

Please don't manhandle my companion.

[When Atsushi steps in, both Therion and the stranger startle back from the contact, as though their tableau's some improbable bubble, popped by an outside touch. The stranger recovers himself first, lifting his mask to reveal a mean, broadening grin.]

'Your companion? Hah! Where'd you find this basin of gravy, Therion?' [Therion isn't quick enough to answer. The stranger turns his grin on Atsushi.] 'Haven't found out yet what a limp wick he is, have you? Well, never takes long.'

[Therion finally gets his wits about him and puts himself halfway between Atsushi and the scarred, sneering man, glaring at the latter icily. And with resounding hurt.]

Darius.

[Darius straightens, still smirking.]

'It's been a long time, hasn't it, partner? Who's this, then?'

[Ah. Therion's former partner. The only time he came up, all the walls came back up with him - it's not hard to imagine why, even before seeing the man in the flesh. Seeing Therion's reaction to seeing him in the flesh.

Atsushi steps around Therion, expression carefully blank. It's really very convenient that Darius took off his mask of his own free will - it's a nice mask, after all. Would be a shame if it got broken.

And it would get broken, because Atsushi's response to the question is to punch Darius in the face with more force than a human of his muscle should ever be able to bear. There's an audible crack of a broken nose.]

[Well that was all he needed to do, now seems like a good time for running before they get thrown out of the market!

And Therion thought he was the one likely to attract unwanted attention.]

Um - sorry, should I have warned you first?

Might’ve been nice.

[Behind them, Darius is finally starting to bellow, and what men he has hidden among the auction begin to come out of the woodwork. Therion beelines, with Atsushi in tow, for a side cave that he knows leads to a lesser-known exit.]

I don't know what else you expected? I've been thinking about punching his face in since you mentioned him before. He hurt you.

[Which is more than enough reason to get his ire.]

[Therion stumbles, shoots Atsushi a quick, unguarded glance, and then resumes running with no ready response. After a moment, he tugs Atsushi into a pitch-black alcove, completely out of sight.]

Keep quiet until they pass.

[It's a tight fit. They have to press close together to remain unseen. Therion's pulse runs hard and unsteady in his throat as he blinks in the darkness, one arm around Atsushi.]

[Atsushi would rather Therion's arm be around him for basically any other reason, but we make do. He holds his breath, as silent as someone with no experience sneaking around can be.

Even knowing that this would be the consequence, he can't say he regrets punching Darius' face in.]

[Eventually, the furious commotion fades away, as do the last of the other robbers' footsteps. Even later still, Therion's arm loosens and falls away. He leans further back into the alcove, pulling half-heartedly at his scarf.]

...So what if he hurt me?

[He directs his voice towards the floor, not to Atsushi.]

What makes you think he did?

The look on your face when you mentioned him. The way you reacted to seeing him. -It matters to me because you matter to me.

[Therion is someone he doesn't want to be hurt, not the way that Darius wounded him deeper than any knife could.]

[Therion lifts his eyes, studying what he can see of Atsushi's face still without quite meeting his gaze, then looks out after the now well-vanished bandits.]

...I think you picked a dangerous fight just now, Atsushi. He didn't have followers like that when I knew him.

[It's not quite like the walls are back up. No, Atsushi's come far too close for that now; if they rose, Atsushi would still be right there within them. Therion has no defenses now--nothing he's willing to use against the man in front of him, anyway.]

[Without hesitation:] I'd do it again. If he ever comes near you he'll regret it.

[Is it dangerous to him, curse or no? Of course. But some things are more important than his own safety.]

[He presses his eyes firmly shut.]

I don't get why it matters. I know you like me, but--for people like me, this is how the world is. Darius was... he wasn't anything I shouldn't have seen coming.

There's never a good reason to betray someone who trusts you. All the more so where trust is rare to come by.

[Therion's trust is a precious, delicate thing that should be treated with care.]

I shouldn't have trusted him in the first place. Shouldn't have trusted anyone in the first place. That's the lesson I had to learn.
