A ryokan (旅館) is a type of traditional Japanese inn that originated in the Edo period (1603–1868), when such inns served travelers along Japan's highways. They typically feature tatami-matted rooms, communal baths, and other public areas where visitors may wear yukata and talk with the owner.

[ and Honoka comes staggering over in the exact same situation, looking as though she's packed for a whole month's stay rather than a week's. ]

It's awesome! I haven't been to one of these inns in forever. And all our food's free, too! I can't wait to dig in!

Yeah, yeah! I'm really glad we got to do this. I never win anything! Well, I guess this one time, I won three free drinks from the machine in a row.

Three drinks in a row? Seriously?!

[ she might be more impressed about that than she is about the whole ryokan business. ]

How much money did you put in?!

Just 200 yen! The free drink thing just kept lighting up! I think I used up my whole year's worth of luck that day.

Whoa! So you basically tripled your money! Man, I'm jealous, I never get free drinks from machines. The last time it happened, it spat out some red bean candy and. Ugh. No.

[ HER ANKO SALT IS ETERNAL AND UNENDING.

but then she brightens ]

But hey, the food here is all included, right? So I could have all the free drinks I want!

Yeah, yeah! What do you want to do first? I mean, once we're unpacked.

[Approaching the front desk now with all these bags.]

[ Honoka follows suit, heeeaaaaaaving all her bags over as well to buzz over to the front desk. At least the staff is gracious enough to be polite as they check in even if Honoka’s way too excited to do the same. ]

Ooohh, we should go put on our yukatas and explore! I bet they have a really pretty garden! And while we’re out there, we’ll work up an appetite for lunch!

[ PRIORITIES. ]

[Haruka nods happily and follows the directions to lug their stuff up to their room.]

Of course! It'll be just like... I dunno what, but some kind of adventure.

A free adventure. That's like, the best kind!

[ and Honoka's obnoxiously dragging hers along behind her. classy. ]

And then once we're all stuffed from dinner we can try out the baths!

Yeah, yeah! Uh, about that, though... do you promise not to freak out? I mean, hypothetically, if you had a friend who was a school idol and went to the hot spring with you and then you were like, "Whoa!" because your totally-not-me friend had a bunch of messed-up scars all over her from a bus accident that would proooooooobably make being an idol awkward?

Freak out...?

[ then she shakes her head fiercely. ]

No! No way! I mean-- I've got a totally weird mole on my side and I dunno where it came from! [ not that those things are at all equal but she's trying to make Haruka feel better dammit ] So it's not a problem!

...ehe. [smile] You mean it's fine, seriously?

Seriously! It's totally fine, I promise!

[ she flings an arm around Haruka's shoulder to prove it. ]

All that matters about being an idol is your smile! And Haruharu-chan's got the best smile, so you're a-ok!

[Haruka drops the bags and hugs Honoka tightly right in the hall.]

All right! Then we're gonna be the greatest idols ever! I mean, we still have to get to our room first, but.

[ oh well in that case she's gonna go ahead and give Haruka a huge hug right back. ]

Right! And once we're all relaxed and pampered from our trip we'll be able to go at singing and dancing full throttle!

[ she pulls back and grins.

... then pauses. ]

So uh. Whereabouts is our room again...?

Hmm... I think it was down here! 127, right? Let's go, let's go!

[She hefts up the bags again and marches forward.]

Let's gooooooo!

[ and there she goes, hurrying after Haruka and eyeing the bags she's heaving along. ]

Man, how much did you end up packing?

Uhh... well, you see, I wanted to see how much would fit in the bag, maybe? Or maybe that's not quite it. Meringue wanted to come too, so he had to have his own luggage, of course, it's only fair! Or I didn't really know what all stuff there was to do up here and just figured I'd take all my important things? One of those. Actually, probably all of them. Life is a complicated thing, dear Honochi.

[ looking at Haruka's bags

... you didn't... pack Meringue in there, did you?

Uh, kind of? He's safe in his ball. I couldn't fit all his stuff in his ball, though, so he got his own suitcase... Wait, I never told you how he hides when I smuggle him into class and stuff, did I?

Oh! Wow, geez, I was kind of imagining you'd just packed him in there with your shoes or something...

[ like you'd probably end up doing, Honoka.

she grabs Haruka's hand and starts tugging her along. ]

Anyway, c'mon, c'mon! Let's hit our room!

[ AWAY WE GO ]

[TO THE ROOM. It's pretty average for this kind of place, and Haruka sets all her bags out on one side and rummages through the suitcases until she finds a Poké Ball and holds it up.]

Here it is!

[ Honoka dumps all her bags and promptly starts nosing around the room with a bright smile on her face, evidently delighted to be here. When she hears Haruka pipe up, she turns around and nods eagerly. ]

Yeah, yeah! Let him out! We can all go for a walk together!

Okay!

[how are you going to explain this -- well, that doesn't seem to matter, as she's letting him out. The Psyduck tilts his head, sees the two of them, and waves.]

There you are! We're here! Honochi wants to go walking, so maybe you can find some rocks.

[Meringue quacks excitedly as Haruka adjusts the little ribbon on his head.]

He's so cuuuuute! Haruharu-chan, that ribbon is on point.

[ Off Honoka goes to root around their room for yukatas. She wants to make sure she's completely and appropriately dressed for this occasion, okay. ]

Oh, hey! What size are you, anyway? They usually order them by small, medium and large... but that's not a whole lot of help, is it?
