I know what you mean. It says so much about the culture they come from. Take edelweiss -- in hanakotoba, it's used to represent strength and courage. But in other countries, it's a token and devotion and love since the idea is that the person giving it would've had to scale an entire mountain just to pluck one. They're much more accessible now, of course, but it's still a romantic idea.

You'll have to let me know if I start rambling, I'm afraid. Flowers and floriography are sort of my specialty.
