The All-Purpose JamJar Meme

For that authentic Jamjar experience without the pesky commitment. Roll or pick from a setting and a prompt below! Drum up some assumed CR with strangers! Jamjar settings are officially the best when you want to do a cross-canon tag-out but just can't be assed to think of a way to fit your character in another one's canon.

I - SETTING

1. Horror: Your characters are taken from their own worlds and thrown into a terrifying situation! Things are creepy, resources are scarce, and ensuring your own survival is paramount. 2. Sex Game: For whatever contrived and nonsensical reason, your characters are forced into a world where they gotta bone. Aside from smutstuff, you have the opportunity to play out how very awkward it is to navigate these agreements and encounters before and after. Lasting bonds can form from something you didn't expect! But so can eternal regret. 3. Slice of Life: Characters are forced to live together in familial units. They have an opportunity here -- in spite of being stuck -- to relax and slow down and do some fun, ordinary things. Picnics, dates, school, etc. 4. Fantasy: Characters are forced into guilds and roles, given weapons and are made to utilize their powers in coordinated units to complete missions. 5. Scifi: Characters are thrust on to the frontier of spacial colonization! Characters on a spaceship! Characters being drafted into an Imperial Earth Army to fight/conquer foreign entities! Characters being in a world where they are assessed, identified, tracked and policed by artificial intelligence! And so on! 6. Reincarnation/ New Identity: Your character has been reborn at this game, or given a new identity. Work out their karma or help them come to terms with having to live a new life. 7. Asylum/Prison/Institutionalized Identity: Characters are locked up and put under heavy surveillance. Slowly they are institutionalized and disintegrated from ordinary social rules of engagement. They could be told that they've been identified as mentally dysfunctional, or they could be in prison! Are they pleading their innocence, or do they know they're guilty as fuck back in their world? 8. Assignment-Based/Mercenary/Survival: Characters have to put their skills to good use as drafted mercenaries. Help your captors assassinate, spy, sabotage, infiltrate, steal, and terrorize for points that will lead up to your freedom or the freedom of others. 9. Your Choice!: Do whatever! II - SITUATION 1. First Impressions: You never forget your first impression of someone. Unless it was entirely forgettable. 2. Oh Hey Again: I kind of know you!!!! Hi!!! I hate this place but love familiarity hi!!! 3. Event: SOMETHING IS HAPPENING and your characters have either run into each other or sought each other out to stick together during it! 4. Living Quarters: Surprise, your characters are in the same house! Or room! Or building! Either way you have to share space and facilities with this person. Enjoy! 5. Mystery: Who Did It? Why Are We Here? Characters are disappearing, people are dying, whatever is happening it is FISHY! 6. Canon Update/Respawn/"But we know each other, I swear!": One character comes (back) to a game and does not remember previous CR. A relationship or friend or even hateship is forgotten. How will this be dealt with? 7. Begrudgingly Working Together: You are so fucking annoying but I guess we have to fight Monster of the Day Together/Get Unstuck-UnLost Together/Find Our Way Back/Help Each Other Out. 8. Is This a Date: Gee, you guys sure are doing a lot of things that people on dates do and you're having a lot of fun [sweats]... 9. Violence: Characters beat the shit out of each other or help each other out of a gory situation with terrible traumatic injuries or something! 10. One-Sided(?) Crush: How do you get their attention? Or, alternatively, how do you ignore that this person obviously is crushing on you and it's totally awkward 11. Protecting/Saving: Your character's chance to be a hero or a damsel! 12. Network Post: Mandatory bs. 13. Inbox: Hey, can I talk to you for a second? In private? 14. Your Choice!: Do whatever!

A little bit of both. The meaning of a lotus in hanakotoba is 'far from the one he loves'. Purity. Chastity. It's a beautiful flower with such a pure meaning behind it.

[ Akane would know about things like purity, wouldn't she? It's kind of ironic, really. ]

Although I like the meaning of the four leaf clover more. While in hanakotoba, it represents luck... there's another meaning behind each of the leaves. Faith, trust, love, and luck. It's interesting how there can be so much meaning behind a single plant, don't you think?

[ man this would be a really good place to drop the interesting "cool, I have a lotus tattoo" tidbit if Yuuri weren't still deathly paranoid of letting anyone Japanese she's got sick ink. ]

I know what you mean. It says so much about the culture they come from. Take edelweiss -- in hanakotoba, it's used to represent strength and courage. But in other countries, it's a token and devotion and love since the idea is that the person giving it would've had to scale an entire mountain just to pluck one. They're much more accessible now, of course, but it's still a romantic idea.

You'll have to let me know if I start rambling, I'm afraid. Flowers and floriography are sort of my specialty.

[collapsing]

You don't have to worry about rambling to me. After all, I'm the queen of random knowledge. But if that's your specialty, I suppose that would make you a gen(i)us of flowers, wouldn't it?

Ah, now I see. You were imprisoned for crimes against wordplay.

[ Don't make out like you didn't laugh, Yuuri.

God. No wonder she and Junpei were friends. They have the exact same sense of terrible shitpost humor. ]

[collapsing]

You can say that this is my punishment.

[ Look, if she's not being stopped, Akane is just gonna keep on going here with the monstrosity that is puns... on puns. ]

Although honestly, if that was my real crime they should have put a ban on texting. So if they're reading this, I hope they know that they brought all of this opun themselves.

[ This is horrible and you should feel horrible. ]

They'll sentence you to solitary confinement if you're not careful. It'll be to the punitentiary for you.

But I guess since we're supposed to be in prison, they are sort of obligated to provide us with cell phones.

[ are... are you having fun, yuuri... ]

It's okay. If I go to jail, I can finally be a really cool punk. Maybe they should give me new clothes, since orange isn't a good punk color.

But at least I'm ending all of my sentences.

You're absolutely terrible. Don't tell me you only messaged me in the first place so you could work out a way to start stringing me along with puns.

I think I'll hold off for now. It wouldn't do me good in a jail to make a reputation for myself as a tattletale.

[ Look at her, successfully avoiding that uncomfortable subject they started on with minimal awkwardness. That's her One Entire Victory for today. Good job, Rii-san. ]

They're not very dedicated to the whole... actually treating us like prisoners idea though, are they? I mean, the accommodation fits but the profiles and the cellphones... it's like someone got lazy halfway through and decided that was prison-y enough.

[collapsing]

[ Akane has several different ways to cope, puns included. ]

They really aren't. I mean, they let us walk around pretty easily around.

[serrata]

You'd think, if they cared enough about our so called crimes then they'd be more concerned about actual repeat offenders. People who've killed or committed real, serious crimes. But they're not.

It makes me wonder when the other shoe is going to drop.

[collapsing]

[ To be fair, Akane has a lot of blood on her hands that she isn't going to exactly talk about. Especially since it's kind of private, personal, and well. She doesn't want to ruin her reputation in the blink of an eye. ]

It really is surprising just how many innocent people there are here to the point where their crimes are "ignorance is bliss". But maybe they just don't care who they bring, as long as they get what they want... not that I would know.

If they plan on stating their intentions, most likely it's going to happen sooner rather than later. That's what most kidnappers do, right? They'll say who they are, ask for their unreasonable demands and maybe have us go about our day until those demands are given. It's something you see normally in mystery and crime novels.

[serrata]

Not only that, but there's people from my own world with... let's say, worse track records than mine. If they were really concerned with crimes then I'm not sure why they only brought me here and not the rest of us, too.

[ Every single person in space fam is an intergalactic criminal and that's only counting all the shit they got up to post-murdergame.

But unreasonable demands. That sounds familiar in the worst sort of way and a wave of oily nausea passes through Yuuri, that she has to push down hard on before she can carry on typing. ]

If they had demands, I would've thought they'd deliver them sooner. If they want something badly enough to bring us all here, it must be killing them to wait. So why delay? Why not tell us right from the start?

[collapsing]

Same here.

[ She knows plenty of people with worse track records than she does, but she's also well aware that her track record is... pretty bad. Blame the ability to see all the timelines that she's ever died in or 'existed' in or fucked up in through Junpei's eyes as a child.

Not much seems to phase her anymore. But that won't stop her from being disgusted. ]

If there's a delay there's a reason for it. Also, it might be possible that the demands aren't for us, specifically.

[serrata]

You think we're being held hostage.

[ She cannot possibly fathom the idea of that being the case and the Fantasy Sweet survivors taking this long to just tear a hole clean in the multiverse to find her and take her home. If any ragtag group of survivors could no-sell another inter-dimensional kidnapping, it'd be them. ]

That's definitely possible. I'm not sure what they could want from my family, but any one of us being held captive somewhere would be a good enough bargaining chip for anyone who had enough of a death wish to try it.

[ yUURI ]

[collapsing]

It's a possibility, but I'm not going to say that it's what they're actually doing. It's no good to assume, after all!

[ She would like to not make an ass of herself, after all. ]

I don't know what they would want from mine, either, [ that's a fucking lie ] but it's a mistake to take anybody from their homes. Especially when those families are dangerous.

[serrata]

"Dangerous" isn't a bad word for it, but I feel like I'm giving you the wrong impression, honestly. It makes them sound like they're all bristling for a fight and ready to get into trouble at any moment.

[ you say that as if that isn't the goddamn gospel truth, Yuuri. ]

I just hope, whatever happens in here, we can find a way back to them soon. This is the longest I've ever been away from them since we all met and I can't imagine how worked up they must be. I just wish I could... send a message, at least. Let them know I'm okay.

[collapsing]

Well, if they were going to get into a fight, I would be pretty surprised... but I don't think it's bad, either, though.

[ She killed people with a chainsaw, after all. But that was out of revenge for killing the one she cared about the most. She has priorities, here. ]

I agree. There's plenty of people that would worry about me and I'm sure Junpei-kun would chase me to the ends of the earth. Even if he shouldn't.

[serrata]

[ Yuuri almost forgets herself for a second and replies with some sort of affirmation that yes, this idiot boy wouldn't be capable of sitting still and not getting himself into trouble. But then she catches herself, hastily backspaces -- and finds herself thinking she might just say it anyway.

What she'd said was the truth: Yuuri hasn't spent a full day out of anyone's company since she and her messed up little family left the Fantasy Sweet. It's not like they're all glued at the hip, of course, but at the end of the day they're all still under the same roof. They're all still family.

It's still a little hard to get to sleep some nights now that she's in a bed by herself again.

It wouldn't be like having any of them here. It certainly wouldn't be a replacement. But... talking about Junpei, at least, with someone who knows him. Maybe that would be familiar enough that she won't feel like she's missing an arm anymore.

So after a long pause: ]

Can I ask you something that might seem a little out of nowhere, Akane-san?

[ She knows. She's known ever since Akane introduced herself, but she might as well make it seem less like she's been lying this whole time. ]

What's his surname?

[collapsing]

[ With the way she asks that question, Akane immediately knows where this is going. There's no need for her to put on any airs, even if there might still be things that she'll keep close to her chest to avoid getting hurt.

But this should be fine. ]

Tenmyouji. His full name is Junpei Tenmyouji.

[serrata]

[ there's another long pause -- because she knows the jig is up. it was so out of nowhere that Yuuri really has no hope of pretending anymore. Junpei's such a normal name so why would this hypothetical stranger's surname be any different?

Unless it was a name like that. A name so ridiculous she's sure the fates only brought it into existence so Ardyn still had a suitably ostentatious surname once he'd started using it. ]

I thought as much.

This is starting to sound less and less like a coincidence, don't you think? The same name on our profiles is one thing but the same person really is another.

[collapsing]

I agree.

[ That it definitely isn't a coincidence, that is. Not that Akane is surprised at all, given the current situation. ]

It means that they might have taken us with that purpose in mind... although I highly doubt that's the only purpose.
