[ Sometimes alchemy ingredients come from dangerous places. Sometimes that means hiring a mercenary knight to protect you in hostile territory. For people like Pierce, that's just a challenge waiting to be conquered!

Pierce was very quiet throughout most of the trip so far, barely speaking at all. When monsters attacked, though, he proved well worth his price. The fight was short and intense, with the Black Moon Knight throwing himself into danger without a moment's hesitation, a veritable whirlwind of steel. The monsters barely had time to attack before they had all been dispatched.

It wasn't a perfect battle, though. Pierce led Sophie out of their territory to a small cave, and let out a hiss of pain as he sat down to catch his breath. ]

[ Sophie can generally look after herself when she's out looking for ingredients – but sometimes she gets a request for something that's not quite so easy to make and she has to go off the beaten path for her components. And though she can look after herself, Sophie's no fool and she knows better than to wander into monster territory without protection.

She's just... impressed it's been such effective protection. Despite the ferocity of the attack, there's only a scratch on her cheek that she suspects is simply from flying debris. Otherwise, she's unharmed – but clearly, the same can't be said for Pierce.

The instant she hears him hiss in pain, Sophie flies over to his side with her lips pursed tightly in concern. ]

Mister Pierce. [ Is she completely ignoring his question? Apparently so! ] Where are you hurt?

[ in another place, in a different time, there may have been a chance for kadoc to live his dream as someone who could actually save the world on his own merits - with the help of all sorts of servants he'd met and summoned along the way, of course. today was one of those idyllic days in between major events, with osakabehime meekly asking the master where her kotatsu could've gone, because she'd abandoned her room for literally a couple of minutes only to find it missing.

Well, maybe not heaven precisely, as she's had to pull off an act of brazen thievery to get here but it's most definitely the closest she's going to get in Chaldea. Truthfully, she's a little jealous, even as she huddles so comfortably under it – if they'd had something so luxurious back in the palace, perhaps she wouldn't have been quite so cold all the time.

She's in a comfortable daze, not quite dozing but not really awake but when she hears Kadoc's voice, she blinks a few times and looks up with a smile. ]

Yes, of course. As soon as the opportunity presented itself, I simply couldn't let it pass me by. She won't miss it terribly if I borrow it for a little longer, will she?
