2nd ♫ | come on let go of the remote

THE PERSONA 4 MEME
→ Step 1: Post as your character with their name and canon and a description of your character's Shadow and their dungeon, their Persona, their Arcana and Social Link... Go into as much detail as you want! You can either AU your character into the P4 setting, or leave them as they are in canon and simply play out their dungeon as it would happen there!
→ Step 2: Others respond, and you tag around to others!
→ Step 3: Play out P4 themed interactions -- either braving a dungeon, to rescue a friend from their Shadow, playing out Social Link rank ups, the works.
Go wild!

tower-hierophant link rank like...idk 3/4, let's rock
[After they'd seen each other's Shadows, it felt wrong to simply leave the situation alone. Shinji was only three years younger and seemed to carry far more than Kakyoin could even imagine--he couldn't just ignore that. After a few admittedly difficult to navigate conversations in the past couple of weeks, the older student met Shinji after school, offering a quiet smile and extending a can of coffee if he wanted it.]
Ikari, good afternoon.
let's get sad
shinji, for his part, was willing to forget the entire matter. instrumentality had surpassed his 'utter strangers prodding around into all that you are' quota for the rest of his life, thank you very much. however, as often as he'd tried to write off the ordeal as a night terror, the presence of uriel -- and kakyoin -- made that an impossibility.
he glances back and forth between kakyoin's face and the can. even after the first awkward conversations and failed plans to meet, he was still here, determined to make a good effort. human kindness...it felt warm. or cold, in this case, as it would very appreciated on a late spring day like this.] Thank you, [shinji said while reaching for the iced coffee. he takes it after a brief pause then wipes some of the condensation off the top with his thumb.] Did you bring one for yourself?
yaaaaaay
It's...a long walk back, right? I though that you might not want to take it alone.
[There was hardly any point for two people in any proximity to be independently lonely. That was...inefficient, he'd almost call it. Though he knew that wasn't quite the definition of 'misery loves company', ignoring each other served no purpose.]
party time /deflates balloon
The strip mall can get crowded sometimes.... It's probably better if you decide which way to go.
/sad noisemaker
[because really, who wanted to deal with crowds]
It seems like that would probably be quieter, right?
/drops cake on the floor
[maybe that came off too enthusiastic. oops. shinji suddenly finds the ground at his feet the most interesting thing in the world and scuffs it with the toe of his shoe.] ...er, yes, it's usually quieter.
I'M AN ADUUUUUUUUUUUUUUULT
...I don't care for loud places, either. Shall we get going?
WE'RE NOT A PART OF THIS SYSTEM
the truck have started to move"get going" they shall. he settles a few steps behind kakyoin, one hand in his pocket.] You don't? Most people don't mind them, but loud places can be so...distracting.MAAAAAAAAAAAAN
I don't have any reason to go somewhere I can't even hear myself think. Besides, being around so many people is...exhausting, for lack of any better wording.
THAT'S NOT MY DAD
he slept for several days when he came back for a reason.]
MY DAD'S NOT A PHONE, DUH
[As if taking a moment to appreciate the idea, Kakyoin didn't speak after that, at least not right away.]
Have you been feeling well? After...all of that, I mean.
I THREW THAT DIO ON THE GROUND
[the blasé tone of his answer fooled even him.]

[Lowering his sunglasses an inch or so, violet eyes glanced over to Shinji.]
I keep noticing--well, you're kind of like me. We're both on our own all the time, and I was wondering...do you just prefer it that way?

[alone was easy. you were never sad or upset, never rejected or made fun of, never happy or made pleasant memories with people you cared about. you existed. that was enough.
("we are the hope that people will one day be able to understand each other, and we are the words, “i love you.”)
each of them deserved better.]
That was a lie. I'm sorry. [he meets kakyoin's gaze with tired eyes.] I don't like it. I used to, before, but there were people who showed me you can't live in a world that only holds you. Still... [he grips the strap of his small book bag tighter.] Adjusting is hard.
[he heaves an deep exhale he hadn't been aware of holding. one less shackle.] But what about you, Kakyoin-san?

...I've never liked it, I only ever thought it was necessary. What I specialize in is logic and reason--strategic thinking, things like that. But people aren't rational and human emotion isn't logical. So I'd never been able to figure out how to form friendships with other people; if I can't understand them, clearly they could never understand me.
[He took his sunglasses off, mindlessly fidgeting with them. 'You can't see my real self, so you could never understand me-']
I guess that's what my Shadow was saying. I wanted friends, but didn't know--no, I was afraid of getting to know other people. So I only asked you that because...I see you on your own all the time, and I guess that I was worried someone else might be the same.

[Kakyoin faltered slightly, caught off guard.]
That's nice of you to say, but I'm not all that special.
