THE PERSONA 4 MEME

→ Step 1: Post as your character with their name and canon and a description of your character's Shadow and their dungeon, their Persona, their Arcana and Social Link... Go into as much detail as you want! You can either AU your character into the P4 setting, or leave them as they are in canon and simply play out their dungeon as it would happen there!
→ Step 2: Others respond, and you tag around to others!
→ Step 3:
Play out P4 themed interactions -- either braving a dungeon, to rescue a friend from their Shadow, playing out Social Link rank ups, the works.
Go wild!

[DID SOMEONE ORDER A MASCOT CHARACTER??

Alright, here's the skinny: Something strange is going on with the mindscape. It seems to be slowly merging with the real world somehow, and as a result, has become partly physical. What's worse is that Shadows have begun appearing, attacking unsuspecting dreamers... and thanks to the changed properties of the dream world, if you die in your dreams, you now die in real life.
If you're a Persona-user (or a potential Persona-user), chances are next time you fall asleep, you're gonna run into this weird triangle guy. He says his name is Bill and he explains to you what's happening, and most importantly, even though the dreamscape is now physical, he's not. For some reason he's still made of pure energy and as a result, can't fight the Shadows. That's where you come in.
What he CAN do is help you navigate, since he lives in the mindscape, he knows it like the back of his little black hand. He can also detect enemy weaknesses, which should be useful.

So c'mon already, you need to help him figure out what's going on and why dreams are merging with reality!
... Oh, and save anyone in danger too, I guess.]

[He blinks. This is the first time he's been here, and although he's just passing it all off as one strange dream (what are those weird figures that move out of the corner of his eye? what are these bizarre structures?), a part of him feels that this is truly real, in some sense.]

[Sam wanders around, too unsettled by this whole thing, until he has the great pleasure of turning a corner and almost walking into...a big yellow triangle man.]

[WHAT.]

W-what?! [He jumps back slightly, eyes widening.] What are...are you some kind of...is that a top hat?

What, do ya want the brand name? Take it easy, Aqualad!

[Truth be told, Bill isn't actually that big; somewhere between 4 and 4 and a half feet, give or take. Still doesn't mean he isn't alarming to suddenly bump into, even if it is a little ironic that Sam, of all people, is freaked out by him.]

Funny thing is, I'm not all that different from you! Except I've never been much for water!

kaito kagamine | warum (OC)

[personal profile] was_no_monster 2015-05-01 08:05 pm (UTC)(link)
As with all Shadows, Kaito's initially resembles himself with one major difference: he has thick metal chains attached to his wrists, ankles, and neck. When rejected, however, he reveals his "true self:" an enormous, misshapen black wolf, covered in crisscrossing and overlapping chains. In this shape, he holds a vacuum in his mouth and is capable of either nullifying ranged attacks by swallowing them, or sucking the heat out of his surroundings. (That, and the amount of strength and very sharp teeth you would expect from a gigantic wolf.)

He represents all the qualities of an Id out of control— selfishness and desire without regard for others, acting on impulse, and the refusal to change or otherwise control his own behavior. He's a monster, after all— nothing will change that, so why should he change just to make people accept him? It's their fault he's like this in the first place!

His dungeon is a sprawling maze of alleys and mostly featureless brick walls. Boarded up windows and doors locked shut with chains occasionally interrupt the monotony, but nothing can be seen through those gaps besides a chilling, numbing fog that seeps through to puddle along the ground. At the very center of the maze is a cramped cage, just big enough to uncomfortably hold one person.

As he's nowhere near accepted himself, Kaito does not have a Persona. His arcana is Strength.

Arcana - The Lovers

The Lovers Arcana represents "the establishment of a personal belief system and becoming clearer about your own values [...] also choices on a grand scale. A dilemma will be presented demanding an action or decision, and you will want to decipher the best way to proceed or make the right choice. Something is going to change your plans or the course of your experience, something that may look negative on the surface but will later prove to be a blessing in disguise."
The Lovers Arcana is all about change and choices, huge ones that alter the course of your life. As the MegaTen wiki puts it, it represents "the idea of hesitation and decision between the "right" way and the "easy" way ".

It also has ties to both the Fool (Adachi) and the Hierophant (Walker) -- " Having gone through the indoctrination of the Hierophant, you are now ready to establish your own belief system and make up your own mind about what is and what is not important in life. This is also a time when you need to stay true to yourself and be as authentic and genuine as possible." [...] "Unlike the Fool’s choice which has no wrong answer, the choice of the Lovers is very much right or wrong because one of those options will almost certainly take you down a negative path."

Within the context of Persona, the Lovers Arcana usually holds a support role, developing along support magic or ability lines, with its Personas usually being fairies or other important historical or mythological women -- who were wives or lovers of other important mythological figures.
Characters who represent the Lovers are characterized by popularity -- they draw people towards them for whatever reason. Social interaction also plays a big part in the Lovers links.

It's also worth mentioning that the female characters who represent the Love Arcana in-game are always portrayed as canon love interests for the Fool (i.e, the protagonist) and in P4 in particular, the Lovers Arcana is represented by Rise Kujikawa who's not only an idol, but has the hots for the P4 protagonist that Adachi is written as a foil for. Food for thought!

Dungeon

Shadow Sonico's dungeon takes the form of an elaborate puppet show, with each section of the dungeon being a recreation of places in her life, on a stage, as if a production were taking place, which represents her feelings of "putting on a show" of being happy. Everything's very bright and cheery... on the surface, anyway. Look too close and you'll see that the sets, while lovingly put together, aren't very well constructed and look like they're ready to fall apart at any moment.

Shadow Sonico herself is content enough to watch the "show" proceed without interference though she will call down to the party to talk to them and occasionally show up in person.

Shadow

oh god I'm just going to bullet point this because it's easier this way.

    The main things that contribute to Sonico's Shadow are the following;
  • Avoidance of what happened in murderschool and her inability (and refusal) to think too hard about her feelings, in case she doesn't like what she finds
  • Fear of her feelings for the people she loves (Adachi in particular) turning sour because of the above and vice versa
  • Fear of her happy ending in Kalos falling apart and leaving her with nothing due to the above
  • Feeling as though her happiness is a "show" she's putting on for the others
  • Bitterness towards the others for not being able to work out that she's feeling all this
  • Bitterness towards herself because of all the above.
  • and general messy angry feelings towards the Future Foundation for letting all this happen

With all this, Sonico's Shadow manifests as a younger version of herself -- the same age she was when she was recruited for the Hope Army -- wearing her distinctive tiger parka outfit, with the hood up and a hand puppet on each hand -- she has one of all of her friends and will hold animated conversations with the puppets while imitating each person's voice and occasionally speaking to the party through them.

Unusually, she seems quite disinterested in her host and is more occupied with watching the party's progression, urging them to come find her faster, and imploring that they bring her "guests of honor" (i.e, Adachi and Walker) -- though this is because she wants them to find her and her host as quickly as possible so they can finally listen to her. Once she's confronted by the party, she'll begin to rant about how sick she is of pretending to be happy with no problems whatsoever, and accuses the party (Adachi and Walker in particular) of willful ignorance and knowing perfectly well that she was suffering but not caring enough to address it.

Berserk, the Shadow becomes a damaged marionette with broken, elongated limbs and a smile painted on its face, despite the way it shudders and shakes, as if appearing to sob. It hides its face from the party with a length of blue material that hangs around its shoulders. It mostly concentrates on debuffing the party and piling status effects on top of them before laying down a blistering physical attack.

Persona - Ame-no-Mikoto (because ame-no-uzume is already a canon aeon persona thanks, p4g)

Once pacified, Sonico's Shadow becomes Ame-no-Mikoto, based on the Shinto goddess, Ame-no-Uzume-no-Mikoto of dawn, mirth and revelry. Ame-no-Mikoto's most prominent appearances in Japanese mythology are in the Amaterasu legends. In most versions of the story, it is Ame-no-Mikoto who lures Amaterasu out of the cave she sealed herself in. Ame-no-Mikoto "...overturned a tub near the cave entrance and began a dance on it, tearing off her clothing in front of the other deities. They considered this so comical that they laughed heartily at the sight". In kyogen, Ame-no-Mikoto is depicted as "a woman who revels in her sensuality".

It's also worth mentioning that Ame-no-Mikoto eventually becomes the wife of the god of the crossroads, which ties in with the Lovers Arcana nicely.

As a Persona of the Lovers Arcana, she -- oh who am I kidding, she basically has a beefed up, support-centric version of Ame-no-Uzume's moveset. THANKS P4G

Arcana - Fortune

The Fortune Arcana (known as the 'Wheel of Fortune' in traditional tarot decks) is an Arcana all about cycles. It serves as a reminder that life has ups and downs, good times and bad times, and most importantly, that you can not simply stand and let any of this pass you by.

"[...] Fortune is about keeping optimistic and having faith in the Universe that it will take care of the situation in the best way possible. You need to remain optimistic yourself, thinking positively and keeping as upbeat as possible."

It is a card that encourages seizing your own fate and fighting against an unfair destiny to establish your own path in life.

Within the context of Persona: "The Fortune Arcana is portrayed by the Wheel of Fortune and symbolizes fate, luck, fortune and opportunity. Bearers of the Fortune Arcana are usually individuals who attempt to seize their own destiny in spite of fate and are typically involved with making important choices and decisions. Personas of this Arcana often specialize in Wind-based abilities."

Dungeon

Shadow Kazumi's Dungeon greatly resembles The Freezer built by the Pleiades. However, instead of the hollow bodies of Puella Magi in the tubes that line the walls, the girls inside the tubes are clones of Kazumi herself, all with hollow empty eyes and lacking name tags.

The dungeon forms in a twisting, circular Labyrinth and Shadow Kazumi herself can be found at the center with her host.

Shadow

Kazumi's Shadow manifests as a result of Kazumi's struggle to reconcile what the Pleiades did to revive Michiryu with her feelings for them, and her own self-identity. Despite her insistance that she is "a real magical girl" and her wish with Kyuubey to give herself a real human body, she is still unsure of how much of her own person she really is, and how much of her is just "Michiru". She's afraid of confronting these feelings in case it means regretting her wish and these are the feelings her Shadow targets.

When docile, her Shadow manifests as Kazumi's original Puella Magi form with the trademark Shadow yellow eyes. Once angered, she transforms into a huge, bestial and monstrous version of herself, all fangs and claws, symbolizing Kazumi's fear of her origins as a cloned Witch.

Persona - Hecate

Once she becomes calm, Shadow Kazumi becomes the Persona Hecate, the Greek Goddess of magic, witchcraft, the night, moon, ghosts and necromancy.

"Hecate or Hekat was a popular chthonic goddess possibly originating among the Carians of Anatolia, the region where most theophoric names invoking Hecate, such as Hecataeus or Hecatomnus, progenitor of Mausollus, are attested, and where Hecate remained a Great Goddess into historical times, at her unrivaled cult site in Lagina. While many researchers favor the idea that she has Anatolian origins, it has been argued that Hecate must have been a Greek goddess. The earliest inscription is found in late archaic Miletus, close to Caria, where Hecate is a protector of entrances." - MegaTen Wiki

Hecate's moveset is mainly focused on a combo of Dark and Almighty moves. She's a bit of a squishy wizard, basically -- highly offensive and effective magic, but little to no physical capabilities and takes physical attacks fairly hard.

She is Strong/Resistant against Light and Weak against Wind.

Satanick | Mogeko

[personal profile] diabolarchy 2015-05-01 09:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Arcana - The Chariot
When it's healthy, the Chariot stands for self-confidence and self-assertion. It's not bad to look out for your own interests and to get what you want. Competing against others and coming out on top, too, can be a perfectly healthy and natural thing.

Of course, this being Satanick, the Chariot comes out in all the worst ways. His ego is overblown and he loves controlling others and kicking them around.

Dungeon
The dungeon resembles Satanick's own castle, with one notable difference (aside from the Shadows around, obviously). The walls are covered in portraits: big ones, small ones, recognizable ones and ones of people long dead. Some of them are faded, but all of them are still clear enough to make out the features on.

None of them are of Satanick himself.

Shadow
Satanick's Shadow is dressed more modestly than his usual self: no capes, no bows, just a regular black suit. He speaks much more calmly and seriously than his regular self does, none of that whining or sing-song tones that Satanick does purposefully to annoy.

In short, what Satanick would absolutely hate to admit the most is that he cares about people. For a lot of reasons. The fact that it goes against his image and projected personality is one of them, but a more pressing reason is that devils are extremely long-lived and extremely difficult to off. Demons, humans, everyone else... not so much, especially in a violent world like the one he rules over. Satanick will likely outlive both his wife and his child by a great deal, as well as most other demons he's become attached to. And humans? Don't even mention how tiny their lifespans are.

There could be another war with the local God and angels at any time. Satanick's relationship with Fumus isn't that bad at this moment, but that's comparatively speaking. If war does break out, Satanick's well aware that any demon he knows could be killed. He'll do his best to minimize casualties, of course, but wouldn't it be easier just to not care?

Except he can't. It's impossible. It's only possible to put up a show of not caring, of being a simple-minded person who only is interested in sex and other games. He's very good at that mask, he's fooled his son. In a way, he's almost fooled himself.

The berserk Shadow Satanick resembles a giant red-and-shadowy Devil that looks stereotypical, maybe even a bit cartoonish. It also hits like a freight train.

Persona - Nirrta
This being a Devil, his Persona is suitably powerful and imposing - Nirrta, the male aspect of the Hindu goddess Nirrti. Gods of destruction, death, and decay. Very nasty.

He's still not a nice person. He just happens to care about a few people now and then.

[ He's been here before.

- Of course he's been here before, what a stupid thought. It's the demon's castle. He's been here more times than he can count, none of them by choice, so he shouldn't be at all surprised, really, to find himself here again.

It's just that it hadn't had all those portraits on the walls before.

He can't say he's ever paid particular attention to the demon's choice of decor, but he would have at least noticed if last time these had been covering the walls of every single hallway, or at least every one he's poked his head into. Far be it from him to judge the demon for deciding to redecorate - he judges him for quite enough already, no point adding even more to the list - but why portraits? Who are these people?

There doesn't seem to be much of a common thread, either, he notes as he makes his way down the hallway, peering at each portrait with vague interest. All sorts of species and genders are represented, including several he doesn't have names for, and while many of the subjects are reasonably attractive, just as many are nothing much to look at. Really, the only thing they all have in common is that none of them is the demon himself - which is odd, really, because that's what Valmont would have expected him to have plastered his walls with. Speaking of whom, where is he? He usually at least does Valmont the courtesy of actually being there when he summons...

That is a portrait of him.

He stops dead in his tracks, staring up at, well, himself. He doesn't recall ever posing for this portrait, which probably made it a lot harder to paint, but the likeness is undeniably his. And the artist has captured him quite flatteringly too, although, he notes, tilting his head critically, they have rather made his nose a bit too big.

The artistry does not, however, make the fact that the demon has a portrait of him, created without his knowledge, hanging in this absurd art gallery any less insanely creepy.

Tearing his eyes away and mentally marking the portrait's location, just in case, he makes off down the hallway at a much brisker pace. He's going to find the demon, and he's going to figure out what the hell is going on with his interior decorating.

[Valmont has seen Satanick's throne room before - no better place for a Devil to feel grandiose and self-important - but it has never yet had two Satanicks in it. At least, not to his knowledge.

Both Satanicks snap their attention to him when he enters. The one dressed more plainly is the first to speak:]
Oh, good, you seem like you're fine. I hope nothing out there gave you any trouble.

[While normally Satanick would have delivered that as sarcastic at best, he sounds entirely genuine.

The Satanick in his usual cape and bows actually looks annoyed, for once.]
Would you get out?

If only because it won over the other part of her that figured that he'd eventually get himself out trouble like he usually would.

Arcana - Death

The arcana about ends and beginnings, changes, and revivals, and Naomi's has encountered a few. It is not an association with physical Death; however, many characters who are associated with this card have experienced a significant loss of some kind and must find change within themselves. Changes are not always expected; sometimes, they're abrupt and many new developments are to follow for a new path to reveal itself. Besides changes, Death can bring around self-awareness, helping those break away from the past and move towards a better future.

Dungeon and Shadow - Linked for your convenience

Persona - Persephone

Daughter of Zeus and Demeter, Persephone was known well for being abducted by Hades and becoming Queen of the Underworld after partaking in some of its foods. Because of this, the seasons begin. When she's on the surface, life grows; when Persephone is in the Underworld, the world dies, waiting to be reborn again in Spring. Persephone adapted well to her roll as Queen, and her name became taboo to utter among the Greeks for fear of drawing her wrath.

Abilities including supporting skills for a party, but also status-inducing attacks upon enemies. However, leveling up reveals more magic and support skills as opposed to physical though a few heavy physical attacks can remain.

Social Link -

Most of Naomi's social link focuses on addressing the issues her Shadow brings up and its actions. While Naomi has talked about her past, there are obviously a number of details she's left out. These emotions make her feel undeserving of what she's gained, and constantly worrying if there's something lying in wait in the future that will make those nightmares - moving and abandonment primarily - come true.

During the social link, she notably becomes stressed to a point where it begins to affect work and worries Alyssa. Eventually, she closes down the clinic temporarily and seems to wander off, causing Alyssa to search for her. Finding her at the bunker, Naomi again contemplates everything they learned, and wonders if she's truly changed or if she's just on the path to old ways again. An emergency proves the opposite, but she passes out shortly after seeing to it due to a combination of stress and pushing herself to the limit. When she reawakens, she appears to have had some revelations, and notes herself as behaving foolishly. Try as she likes, what happens doesn't matter; it would all come to the same end, and she would keep doing everything for others even if they turn away from her. That's just the person she is.

Princess Anna of Arendelle | Frozen / DRRP

[personal profile] loveisanopendoor 2015-05-04 08:04 am (UTC)(link)
Arcana- The Star

The Star is a card dealing with hope and faith, peace and joy, luck and generosity; all things the optimistic Anna positively radiates. It's about trust, and the belief that a bright future is always beyond the horizon if one has courage and is kind. In particular, it's a card that relates to personal growth and self-esteem; the Star suggests that one has been through many challenges and hardships in overcoming The Tower, but now one is engaged in the process of healing and strengthening personal bonds, both with others and with one's "true self" through a connection that has been revealed through adversity. For Anna, this relates to an acknowledgement of the challenges that she went through (both in murderschool and in her own lonely past), motivation towards believing in herself and making her kingdom and her friends as happy as can be, and the stability of a hope that the future will be better than the past.

In SMT, Personas associated with the Star Arcana usually have attacks related to Wind or Ice, but are typically vulnerable towards Fire-based attacks (hahaha). Characters associated with the Star are typically those who embody some of the main elements of the Star: hopefulness, optimism, and positivity.

Dungeon and Shadow: This is basically the gist!

Persona - Jeanne

Born in France to a peasant family in the early fifteenth century, Jeanne d'Arc received visions from Heaven instructing her to recover France from English rule towards the end of the Hundred Year's War. She was sent to Orleans as part of a relief mission by the then-uncrowned Charles VII, and lifted the siege there in a mere nine days, destroying a large percentage of the English forces at the Battle of Patay and reversing the course of the war. She became revered in her time after several more swift victories and became a symbol of hope and altruism in France; her success in battle led to the successful coronation of Charles VII, which severely increased the morale of the French and led to their victory. Unfortunately, Jeanne was later captured at Compiegne and put on trial for heresy, where she was burned at the stake, dying at only nineteen years of age. She was posthumously declared a martyr and, later, one of the nine patron saints of France.

As a Persona, her Inherit is Strike, and she's capable of dealing fairly severe Phys damage with moves such as Brave Blade, in addition to being able to heal the party. Eventually, Jeanne is even capable of learning moves that deal Almighty damage; however, she's quite weak to Fire damage, and her moves come at a very heavy HP/SP cost; with support, Anna is capable of plowing through Shadows left and right, but she can only go so far on her own without ways to heal her HP and SP.

Also, Anna might have cried a lot when she realized that her childhood hero was her Persona jesus christ

[When going against Shadows, Naomi stands back. She doesn't have a Persona, but she isn't going to leave the others to go in alone. She'll fight back with what she could - generally staying in the back - and watch the others deal the heavier damage with their new abilities.]

[Today, they were dealing with that could be considered training wheel Shadows. They were of so-so strength, able to be dealt with by her, but going down faster with one or two hits from a Persona User. Today's User in training was Anna after her dungeon. Naomi pushes up her glasses a little and nods over to her daughter.]

Two Shadows, and they're weak to fire as well. You'll be able to handle them; just be careful not to wear yourself down too fast, alright?

[While going through that, um, experience with her own Shadow was certainly harrowing in and of itself, and Elsa's was arguably worse, even she had to admit that though she probably shouldn't be enjoying herself this much, wailing on Shadows was awesome. Sure, the glasses look a bit dorky on her, but they work to see through the fog, and they're all the better to see her Persona with. Using it was a bit tricky, though, and getting it to form properly took a bit of practice...

When she had told Cynthia about finding The Star, her fellow princess was quick to draw a comparison with the main character of a...relatively bizarre story she had stumbled upon in her travels. It was about an intense tough-guy who solves his problems with his fists, and beats up enemies with a spirit that fights alongside him called a Stand. Now, it seemed pretty ridiculous to Anna (which was probably why her friend enjoyed it so much), but his Stand was also named after The Star, and it was one that can throw a thousand punches a second with impossible precision. The excitable girls had a good laugh about it, imagining how convenient it would've been to have a punch-ghost like that to knock her ex off a boat and yelling nonsense like ORA ORA ORA ORA the whole time...

But this was even better than that. A million times better than that. This wasn't a punch-ghost. It was Joan. The Joan. The Joan that she read about as a child, the Joan who saved France, the Joan who was hanging on her wall in the foyer. And there she was, fighting Shadows and utterly annihilating them. The two Shadows standing before the girl and her Persona or Stand or who cares it's freaking Joan of Arc went up in flames almost as soon as Naomi gives her warning. And despite the potential severity of the situation, Anna's having the time of her life.]

This is the greatest thing ever!

Margaret | Atop the Fourth Wall

[personal profile] igoontumblr 2015-06-28 10:51 pm (UTC)(link)
☆Arcana: Death☆

While this arcana usually associated with doom, it can mean a turn around or a deep change for a character. Margaret died a grizzly death, filled with anger and hatred, but came back in the form of a gun and as time passes, as a sweet and wise girl who helps out her friends in battle.

☆Dungeon☆

The dungeon takes the form of a church, one reminiscent of the church she died in. The final room is shut tight. Once you open it, the altar is surrounded by flames and there are two very large crosses adjacent to the altar (there seem to be two people crucified on each). There is a cold, unsettling air throughout the entire dungeon. A lot of the monsters surrounding the corridors are dark/almighty class.

☆Shadow☆

Margaret's shadow is much more menacingly terrifying than she is normally. It manifests as the person she once was; angry and betrayed, and the scene before you is a reenactment of the revenge-killing of her parents. She will insist that she was made for killing, and that is what she must do, no matter the era of today. The shadow also insists that she can't change who she must be.

Actual-Margaret will be quick to remember this part of her and possibly break down, because this is a memory she tends to forget and/or push to the back of her mind.

When she is angered, Shadow!Margaret transforms into a monstrous gun-wielding girl in a torn-up dress.

☆Persona☆

Alice

Once you defeat Shadow!Margaret and Margaret calms down, the gun girl transforms into a girl wearing a black dress. Her name is Alice, and she has a master skill in magic. She is weak to light.

Kakyoin Noriaki | JJBA: Stardust Crusaders | spoilers for a 25 year old series jsyk

[personal profile] lapidarius 2015-06-29 01:41 am (UTC)(link)
Arcana: The Hierophant

'The Hierophant is a symbol of education, authority, conservatism, obedience to rules and relationship with the divine. The definition of a "hierophant" is a person who interprets sacred mysteries or esoteric principles, and the term was originally used to name ancient Greek priests who did so.' For Kakyoin, what this basically boils down to is that he's the smart one of the group; the tactician and strategist, able to work any bad situation into even a minor victory through staying calm under pressure and thinking logically.

Persona: Hierophant Green

...he predates Persona and Stands are the exact same thing, don't look at me.

Dungeon: Something like a network of crystal caves, but made entirely of emerald. It's expansive, cold, and above all else empty.

Shadow: The only visible differences between Kakyoin and his Shadow (apart from eye color) is that the latter wears a long white scarf draped over his shoulders. Shadow Kakyoin is skittish and afraid, pleading with anyone that finds him 'don't kill me, I don't want to die'. He also pushes others away, declaring that they can't possibly understand him if they can't see his 'real self'. When angered, he turns into a marionette version of himself that fights by extending his scarf like a whip as well as weaponizing the emeralds growing out of the walls like projectiles.

Social Link: Kakyoin's Social Link focuses mainly on his own isolation; a second-year in high school, he keeps entirely to himself. Despite having a kind personality, he simply doesn't make any friends. After his dungeon and Stand Persona awakening, the ranks of his Social Link involve Kakyoin gradually learning just how to open up to people and make actual friends.

Mid-level ranks involve him talking about his parents, who despite being deeply caring individuals never really understood why Kakyoin refused to befriend others. Higher ranks find Kakyoin spending a lot of time in the school's art room; showing a surprising amount of talent in painting and admitting he might want to pursue a career in it after high school. The last rank involves Kakyoin admitting the protagonist was the first friend he'd ever made and that he'll fight with them until the end with no regrets. The end of his Social Link grants the Wooden Marionette, allowing the protagonist to fuse Kohryu.

[personal profile] muusou 2015-07-03 02:59 pm (UTC)(link)
[ she doesn't remember entering the tv world, barely remembers leaving it and everything else in between is a giant blur.

she remembers the important parts though. the yellow-eyed girl with her face who'd known every inch of her heart better than Sonico did, words that hit too close to home about how she's worthless useless no good to anyone just a burden just a burden just a burden and screaming denial back in return.

everything after that is a big fat cut to black until she'd woken up surrounded by unfamiliar faces, all similarly concerned. she remembers the yellow-eyed girl's face, sullen and sulky, warming into a smile of relief when Sonico had said that yes, you're me and I'm sorry.

It's been a few weeks since then -- she's been at home, shivering and weak with an illness that isn't quite a cold and it's only her second day back at school after the whole disaster. but she'd asked around and managed to put a name and a year to one of the faces who'd turned up to save her.

so, then. when you come out of class today, kakyoin, there is a very short and probably familiar pink-haired girl waiting next to the door, with a big ol' bento box in her hands, carefully wrapped up with a handkerchief.

what do. ]

[Truthfully, Kakyoin very nearly walked past her. People didn't wait around for him, didn't really associate or even talk to him--which the second-year student had grown to accept as the natural order of things.]

[But the pink hair struck a chord of familiarity that caused him to hesitate in mid-step, trying to put a name to the face that wasn't lit by yellow eyes.]

blackmass: (trust was blind; you broke the pact)

Kotomine Kirei | Fate/stay night/DRRP r2

[personal profile] blackmass 2015-06-29 12:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Arcana: Hierophant

Persona: Daisoujou

Dungeon: Most of Kirei's dungeon is a flaming smoldering wasteland with some large unholy Thing off in the distance. The Shadow and its host, however, can be found in the one outwardly undamaged building: a church with a ruined interior.

Shadow: Kirei's Shadow looks largely the same as its host, but has skin that cracks and falls apart in places like marble. Underneath is broken and rusted clockwork, struggling to function and making quiet but very noticeable erratic ticking noises. Like Kirei himself, the Shadow is very calm and speaks evenly, but everything he says amounts to openly immeasurable self-loathing and the wish that he would have just disappeared years ago. Shadow Kirei asks everyone he sees at least once, 'do I have a right to exist?'

As Kirei hates but doesn't deny his Shadow, it doesn't change form--which is probably lucky, because if it did it would most likely end up some eldritch horrorterror.

Social Link: Forming a Social Link with Kirei is a long and arduous process, and even he has no idea why anyone would bother. Early ranks are comprised mostly of him being unnecessarily long-winded and cryptic about apparently nothing. Nearer the middle he talks about how the hapless idiot dumb enough to keep talking to him can't understand him, mentioning his dead wife and father in the process. The ninth rank is where he admits he's going to end the world just to answer the question of whether Kirei himself has a right to exist or not. After countless nigh impossible to navigate dialogue trees and options, the final rank involves admitting that hey, that's fucking insane--just kidding. He actually decides ending the world can wait just a little while longer, since humanity continues to prove itself so 'entertaining'.

The end of Kirei's social link grants the Baptism Rite, a written exorcism allowing the protagonist to fuse--you guessed it--Kohryu.

Arcana: Hermit. Hermit Arcana is associated with characters that give assistance from the sidelines, which is very much Ondorus' role in RF3 and in his life - he's the exposition-giver and an unconditional source of aid for the player, and to the settlement, he is the authority figure that always supports Kuruna. In the Fool's Journey, it also represents a stage of withdrawal and meditation; Ondorus is in a place where many of his relationships are one-sided because he is secure in himself and has lived for a long time, and he interacts with younger people who trust him. It also reflects his fault of not being able to take direct action because of his attempts to be unconditionally supportive and to not cause too much disruption.

Persona: ....Man I have no idea. Hitokotonushi?

Dungeon: Ondorus' dungeon is fairly "tame" because he's mostly aware of his issues and accepting of them, so there's not much shadow activity and those that do hang around aren't very aggressive. The front half appears as a desert, with tall canyon walls that seem to loom and close in, blocking out surroundings. At some point the dungeon turns into a very claustrophobic maze appearing as many interconnected tents, with piles and piles of books, rugs, chests, and other old artifacts that make it hard to move around.

Shadow: Similarly, Ondorus' shadow is pretty docile, and isn't really expecting to get a rejection - it is as polite as ever to people that aren't Ondorus (though less directly kind), and with Ondorus it adopts a kind of disappointed/quietly resentful manner. It looks just like Ondorus himself, except with some extra adornments that look ceremonial and maybe a little heavy/uncomfortable, including necklaces/collars of fossil bones. It talks about Ondorus' passivity and "cowardice", especially wrt how if he'd stood up to Kuruna earlier maybe the feud thing would've been solved much earlier. And aside from letting that happen, he also resents his duties and his general...situation for keeping him from having a normal life with people with similar lifespans, or at least from traveling the world and developing close relationships with people. At the same time, though, could he manage to live for himself like that...? It's an internal conflict with no clear solution.

Ondorus' good emotional skills and long life experience make his shadow much less polarized than it could be, and they're both able to agree on all points of his issues.

Social Link: Ondorus' social link is about half and half regular social link stuff about him and focus on caring for the person who's social linking with him instead - at low ranks, especially, he gives advice instead of asking for it. Middle ranks involve the...social-linker (?) in situations where Ondorus advises other people, and where he prompts them to add their own thoughts on the situation; the dynamic shifts as Ondorus considers them closer to an equal, and they're able to press Ondorus about the reasons he says and does some of what he says and does. At...like rank 8 or 9, Ondorus admits in some way that while he likes looking after people, it's sometimes tiring that his lifespan makes most relationships so distant and fleeting, and he'd like to meet someone who he didn't guilt himself into feeling so heavily responsible for. End of SLink involves Ondorus attempting to strike a balance with the social-linker; he can't abandon his usual ways entirely, but he will trust them to enjoy their life without being coddled by him, and they can try to interact as equals.

He gives the social-linker an OLD-ASS BOOK which is actually just an OLD-ASS YA adventure fantasy novel he liked when he was a kid, to symbolize his willingness to be less ~ancient and untouchable~ around them. It lets them fuse Arahabaki because yeah yeah it's Ongyo-Ki in P4 but I think Arahabaki is much more appropriate for Ondorus. Aboriginal god, god of travelers, etc etc.

Arcana: The Tower. Shinji's life is a shithole, let's be real. His mom is a robot, all of his friends are either dead or hate him, and his dad exemplifies the phrase "bad parenting." His life was destined for calamity the moment his mother stepped into Eva. Moreover, this arcana represents "overly arrogant, prejudiced and authoritarian organization, which walk to their own ironic demise." NERV and SEELE control the world stage from the sidelines in an effort to bend Human Instrumentality to their own ends with Shinji as a main pawn. The irony kicks in when the pawn is given free will and agency, and decides to kick over the whole board so neither of them win. Eat shit, old men.

Persona: Uriel, the angel who will oversee the resurrection and retribution of souls during Judgement. Also, he who guarded the gates of Eden with his flaming sword and carries the stars. And that's just the first page of his resume.

Dungeon: Think Naoto's dungeon, but much more red. Lots of documents with blacked out lines lying about as well. Inaudible whispers you start hearing the third floor down turn into voices repeating, "I hate you. Go away. Please love me. Will you be one with me body and soul?" The actual voice the person hears is tailored for your pleasure to the person they hold most dear. The obligatory gimmick floor is just one room, however, it is the miniboss room and it is rapidly filling up with thick orange liquid. The party has 7 turns before the room fills up completely. They can still breathe, however the blood-tasting liquid can randomly cause ailments as well as heavily nerf damage and accuracy for both party and monster.

The party passes through what looks to be a final train terminal before entering The Cage.

Shadow: Blunt to the point of cruelty, prone to violence at the drop of a hat, and manipulative. He also displays an almost obsessive need to atone. Transformed, the Shadow is a huge blue and white mottled bipedal figure who relies on melee attacks and temporary powerful buffs which eat away at his own life.

Social Link: If you are Kaworu Nagisa, skip straight to Rank 10 upon meeting.

If you are not Kaworu Nagisa, this is a tough road. Self-loathing and hopelessness pervade most of the S.Link. He is nothing in a vast sea of noisy people who all hate him without question. It'd be better if he didn't exist at all, but he can't even go through with suicide because of how useless he feels. Rank 6 is a breakthrough; he's somehow made friends with one of the other boys in class. They talk to him, visit him at home, goof off with him after school. It's like...before. Rank 10 comes with the realization that even if he has no one else, he has you and his new friend. The past cannot hold him. He was given this new chance for a purpose. He must live so that he can find his heaven.

You receive undying friendship, an Old Walkman, and some tapes with cruddy music. With the Old Walkman, you'll be able to fuse Tabris, the artificial angel of free will and alternatives.

[A little like his fellow Persona-user, Noriaki Kakyoin tended to isolate himself, and rarely socialized with anyone if he could help it. Unlike Shinji, his own situation was far less...'dire' seemed an appropriate word for it, if Kakyoin had to choose one.]

[After they'd seen each other's Shadows, it felt wrong to simply leave the situation alone. Shinji was only three years younger and seemed to carry far more than Kakyoin could even imagine--he couldn't just ignore that. After a few admittedly difficult to navigate conversations in the past couple of weeks, the older student met Shinji after school, offering a quiet smile and extending a can of coffee if he wanted it.]
