[You know what's probably not a good idea? Messing with Rii-san when she's cooking. Which is why Kurumi waits until just after everyone's finished eating and Yuki managed to pull Miki off into some scheme. When Rii is busy washing up the plates she'll suddenly find herself in a bear hug.]

Y'know, you really should pay attention more.

[ It's getting close to exam time and Honoka knows better than anyone that she needs to up her grades. She's doing mostly okay in pretty much everything, no better or worse than can be expected, but her grade in math is frankly abysmal. So it's study study study until she's got formulas and decimal points leaking out of her ears and then she's got to study more.

Of course, that's only part of why she's been dragging Yu back to her house so often. After all, he's smart, gets good grades and hey wow, her parents run a sweet shop, wouldn't it be great to snack away on dango and uiro and green tea while they were studying? No need to be suspicious or to sniff out any ulterior motives or to expect that your friend plans on dropping a big fat love confession right in your lap.

But she can't just... throw it out there. The timing has to be right. The mood has to be right. Honoka's got... about forty percent of that in place given that they're alone in her room and studying at her table but the time doesn't seem quite right for "Hey, Yu-kun, how do you solve this problem and also I love you and I wanna kiss your dumb face". It's hard to get a romantic mood going over algebra.

It's getting late when Honoka finally gives a defeated groan and lets her forehead drop down onto her workbook, rolling her head side to side on top of the paper. ]

Ugh... no more... if I cram any more math in my head, I'm gonna pop...

[ Yuuri doesn't jump -- she can hear Kurumi coming a while away -- but she makes a show of it anyway because that's what Kurumi probably wants.

She baps Kurumi's hand lightly with the rice spatula before plopping it back into the sink to wash. ]

One of these days I'm going to drop a plate and it's going to be all your fault.

[ she gives Kurumi's hand another pat -- with her own this time, a little assurance that regardless of what she's saying Yuuri's happy for her to keep her hands where they are. ]

You're getting stronger than Yuki-chan, too. Has swinging that shovel around been beefing your arms up?

[Kurumi gives a small huff at her words but just settles her head on her shoulder.]

[ I'D BE HONORED though Honoka may have to do the bouncing for both of them since Reina is, um.

Well, she's Reina, for better or for worse. To those who don't know her, she's quiet and cool at best, and a complete enigma at worst; she's a girl who's about as individualistic as they come, and who, in her own words, doesn't waste time associating with people who don't interest her. So it might be a bit of a surprise, to some, that she's taken such a liking to Honoka...after all, one would think that Reina, with her cold front and blunt personality, would clash with someone so bubbly and overbearingly extroverted.

But there's something about Honoka that lingers with Reina; a certain quality that she has that makes it difficult to say no to her. The way she ignores boundaries, her complete lack of self-restraint, her natural leadership, her aggressive optimism...these are all qualities that Reina has come to admire, quirks that make Honoka stand out above the rest and distinguish her from her peers. Reina's goal is to become special, a step above the rest, but as far as she's concerned, Honoka is already truly unique, in her own way.

...And if nothing else, the way Honoka scarfs down her sandwich as the two of them sit under the trees is proof that at least something about her is one-of-a-kind. Seriously, there's probably more on her face than in her tummy-- ]

Honoka. We're not in a rush, you don't have to eat like it's your last meal.

[ Whether she likes it or not, Reina's going in with the handkerchief. Try and stop her, see what happens. ]

[ If there's one thing Honoka has in spades, he thinks, it's enthusiasm. Her drive and excitement for (most) everything in her life is exhilarating and contagious. It's really no wonder she's the leader of µ's. She draws people to her, the warm glow in the night surrounded by the softer lights of many fireflies.

It sure would be great of some of her energy and magnetism applied to her schoolwork, though.

They've been working steadily for a few hours, Yu patiently explaining concepts and working over problems with her. He didn't mind it too much; for him, these were concepts from a year before, but they were still fundamental mathematics and it was helpful to drill every so often.

He has absolutely no idea what she's got in store, because at unfortunate moments Yu can be completely oblivious. Given that they really have been studying, he thinks there's nothing more to this study session than just that: studying. Or, in Honoka's case, suffering.

When she finally gives up the ghost, Yu smiles and shuts his book over his pencil, in order to save his place. ]

You've done well. We can probably give it a rest for the evening if you'd like to take a break.

[ Haha, she's cute like that, rolling her head back and forth. He kind of wants to pat her head, but resists. ]

[ As soon as she's promised a reprieve from her algebra induced death, Honoka's head pops back up and she gives him a weary smile. It's nice to know her hard work is paying off even if it sort of feels like she could do just as much good by beating her workbook against her face. If Yu says she's doing well then she thinks he's probably telling the truth -- he wouldn't send her off to a math test with an inflated ego if she really was that pitiful at handling numbers. ]

The evening? Man, is it seriously evening already? We did a billion problems but it sorta feels like we just sat down to get started.

[ It probably says a lot that even when she wants to drop dead so she doesn't have to do anymore math the time still manages to fly when she's with him. ]

Want some more dango? I can get some more tea, too! Oh uh-- you're not gonna get in trouble for being out too late, are you?

[ The corner of Yu's mouth twitches when she suddenly springs back to life like that. She reminds him a little of Yosuke, sometimes. They share the same complete inability to handle long periods of studying without melodramatics and burying their faces in their textbooks.

Still, she has definitely improved. She won't get a perfect score, but he's confident she'll do fine as long as she keeps her wits about her. ]

Yeah, it does. Time flies.

[ He says, not realizing he's echoing her thoughts. There's laughter in his eyes, too, though it goes unvoiced.

He'll shake his head at her question. She doesn't need to know that there's no one even home to scold him for returning late in the first place. ] I'm alright. Why don't I come with you?
