Even if he couldn't read minds it'd be apparent that Ryoko's currently suffering from one—she's been quiet for some time now, and the way her brows are knit together, her grumpier than usual, pained expression, and the way her eyes are focused on a singular point of Absolutely Nothing are dead giveaways. They're usually so bad she curls up to clutch her head, so before it can get that bad, Akira figures it's worth trying to intervene where he can.

It's probably not a substitute for her medicine, but he at least wants to try.]

[ Since she's settled in at Bright Sparks, her headaches have been getting more and more manageable. They don't stop because Ryoko suspects they won't ever stop, but the frequency and the speed with which they ramp up has eased off a little. It's probably thanks to the distance from her Sentinel and the fact that she hasn't been shifting, so maybe that's a blessing in disguise.

Less frequent doesn't mean they've stopped of course and today's is a nasty one, just painful enough that she can't really center her mind on anything but trying to will it away. She's so wrapped up in it that she almost doesn't notice Akira's voice – and she blinks a few times like she's coming out of a trance before she acknowledges him. ]

Having a companion along at all, nevermind one she can tease (and who can take it!), has made what might otherwise be long and lonely travel through beautiful (but again, lonely!) landscapes something a little less boring. Of course, their travel onward seems to be delayed by quite the brewing storm, and they've gotten lucky enough to be taken in one of the houses of a small farm development here on the mountain.

The storm hasn't quite arrived yet, though, the skies still heavy with near-yellow clouds that cling to the waning sunlight, and Maya drifts along to her companion's side with something hidden behind her back, kneel-squatting next to him. She is all smiles, as usual, when she bumps her shoulder against Obi's to make sure she has his attention.]

He's maybe three-quarters awake when Jonathan's hand closes around his. His fingers twitch in that warm, gentle grip as he blinks the rest of the way conscious. Obi looks down at their hands for a while, as if it's not clear what he's seeing, and finally raises his eyes to Jonathan's face.]

Their dad was a dragon who was kind of a helicopter parent that had a bad habit of glaring at anyone he felt was a danger of “taking liberties” with his child (a dragon doesn’t need to give the “shovel talk” because if you piss them off you won’t leave enough remains to NEED a shovel to bury), which left Alex with few friends and no dating experience growing up.

That was ordinary stress, though. The real problem was when the dragon got captured by a demon and corrupted until they joined the forces of evil, leaving the defense of the city on Alex’s shoulders. Alex wasn’t ready for it and as a result thousands of people died.

[ Sakura's particular skillset isn't always called for in a Worldline dive – as strong as her magic is, it's also bright and flashy and sometimes when a Worldline is particularly dark and dangerous, she isn't a good match for it. So she and a few of the others had stayed behind while the person she now calls Ao-kun had gone along with the others. And of course, Sakura knows they can look after themselves but it doesn't stop her worrying up a storm the entire time.

She's first in line to greet them when they come back, charging down the sterile corridors as fast as her feet will carry her to get to the room that takes them to and from whatever Worldline they've focused on next.
